Technology, by its nature, is highly sophisticated and has immense influence in the economic development of the nation and day to day life of human. Having identified the importance of the technological education in Sri Lanka, Ministry of Education together with the National Institute of Education (NIE) introduced “Technology Stream” to the GCE Advanced Level in the year of 2013, followed by the startup of new undergraduate programs in the Sri Lankan University systems. In line with the new initiative, the University of Jaffna, as the pioneer of Technology education in Sri Lanka, established the Faculty of Technology at Ariviyal Nagar, Kilinochchi in the year of 2016.

The faculty offers Bachelor of Engineering Technology Honors and Bachelor of Biosystems Technology Honors Degree programs with the standard of SLQF 6. Five years since the establishment, the faculty gleams with newly added infrastructures, sophisticated equipment and research facilities. While emerging as one of the centers of excellence, the faculty continues to produce academically sound and skilled graduates to cater the ever-changing technological needs of the nation.

About Kilinochchi

Kilinochchi is one of the unique and historical districts, located in the northern province of Sri Lanka. From the pre-historic times, the Kilinochchi is known as one of the major agrarian cultivation zones in Sri Lanka. Iranamadu Tank, Kanakampikai Pond and Kilinochchi Pond have been the major irrigation sources for paddy and various other cultivations. Although the majority of the city is covered with forests and semi-forests, the city is well connected through Sri Lankan railways and situated at the A9 highway. Since the establishment of Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Technology in Ariviyal Nagar, the Kilinochchi has been referred to as one of the most livable cities in the north of Sri Lanka.
